Animal attack victim scheduled for reconstructive procedure

Posted on April 14th, 2014 No Comments

On Tuesday, April 15 doctors will perform a procedure to replace the ear of a girl who was attacked by a pet raccoon when she was a baby.

11-year-old Charlotte Ponce will undergo the first procedure in a series of surgeries to reconstruct her ear. From Charlotte’s rib cartilage, doctors will make a pattern using her other ear. Doctors project that by June, the new ear will be ready to surgically attach.

Charlotte was only an infant when she suffered serious injuries after a pet raccoon attacked her. As a consequence of the attack, Charlotte lost her nose and her right ear.

Unconventional pets and domestic pets alike can cause serious injuries. It is important to note that when you or a loved one has been attacked by someone else’ pet, negligent parties should shoulder the bills related to medical treatment.
