Detroit Animal Control has astounding percentage of pit bulls

Posted on February 18th, 2013 No Comments

A staggering 77 percent of Detroit Animal Control cages are occupied by pit bulls or pit bull-mix dogs, according to Animal Control Manager Harry Ward.

Of the city’s 200 cages, 100 are being used to shelter runaway or stray dogs, and most of these apear to be pit bulls, which includes pure bred Staffordshire bull terriers and American bull terriers.

This may have something to do with more than 800 bite reports mostly from these dog breeds in Detroit last year, Ward added.

Ward said 15,000 dogs are removed from the streets annually and brought to animal shelters through the efforts of the Michigan Humane Society, the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society, and animal control.

If you or someone you know has been injured by a pit bull or any other dog, there may be legal options available to you. Learn more by contacting the legal team at Ravid & Associates, P.C., by calling 877-PET-BITE.
