Dog owner gets probation for attack

Posted on November 21st, 2011 No Comments

A Grand Rapids man has been sentenced to three years probation and must complete 300 hours of community service, as well as pay $9,000 to the victim his two dogs attacked.

Earlier this year, a 60 year-old man was attacked by two pit bulls while he was taking out his trash. The dogs ended up breaking both of his arms. He had to have surgery and extensive rehabilitation, and says he’s still not fully recovered.

The owner of the dogs has eight previous felony convictions, which could have lead to him spending time in jail, but his attorney was able to convince the judge that the attack was accidental and that his client had no intention of hurting anyone.
