How to avoid dog bites

Posted on June 6th, 2011 No Comments

Each year, more than 30 people are killed from dog bites and nearly a half million people are attacked. Many of these dog bites involve children and this is why it is extremely important to take the steps to avoid dog bite attacks.

Something that must be done is to be able to read a dog’s behavior and body language, but this can be hard to do. Most dogs will give a warning sign before biting. Some signs are obvious such as a growl, but it could be something minor such as a tenseness in the face or a sideways glance.

Avoiding eye contact with a dog is also important and never disturb a dog that is sleeping or eating. If a strange dog approaches you, stand still and let it sniff you. Do not scream and run because then the dog will start to chase you.
