Jury awards $2.2M verdict in pit bull bite lawsuit

Posted on August 22nd, 2011 No Comments

A Washington woman has been awarded a $2.2 million verdict after a pit bull bite lawsuit.

The lawsuit stated that partial blame from the attack was allotted to the county for not taking appropriate action against the dog, which was a known threat in the area. According to a complaint, the loose pit bull entered the woman’s home and attacked her two dogs. She was then  bitten while trying to separate the pit bull from her two pets.

The jury found that the county was 42 percent at fault in the attack and the owner of the dog was 52 percent responsible. The woman was found 1 percent responsible for her own injuries. According to the U.S. Center of Disease Control, nearly 300,000 people are treated each year for dog bites.
