Michigan named sixth in nation for dog bites

Posted on May 18th, 2012 No Comments

State Farm has ranked Michigan as the state with the sixth-most dog bites, with 181 dog bite claims in 2011 alone. According to The Times Herald, more than $7 million were paid out for those claims.

The St. Clair County sheriff warns residents to be cautious of unfamiliar dogs and to always ask permission from the owner before petting the animal. The Port Huron Police Department echoes these warnings, stating that it has seen a significant increase in pit bull attacks since March.

When approached by an aggressive dog, it is important to avoid eye contact and to turn away from the animal. However, you should not to run or scream.
