Pastor dies after bitten by pet rattlesnake

Posted on June 5th, 2012 No Comments

A Pentecostal pastor from West Virginia died just hours after his pet timber rattlesnake bit him on the thigh during a service. The pastor was well known for holding the snake during sermons, as was his father, who died the same way nearly 30 years ago.

According to the Daily Mail, the man would hold the snake as a test of faith. He was bitten three times before but refused to go to the hospital, saying he would only go if absolutely necessary. By the time he made to the hospital last week, it was too late.

The 44-year-old reportedly owned several snakes and was an experienced snake handler who was well aware of the risks.
