Pet monkey bites three people

Posted on May 8th, 2012 No Comments

A pet marmoset escaped from its home in Ashville, North Carolina on Sunday and bit three people in a nearby neighborhood before it returned home that night. The animal was kept illegally under the city’s animal control rules and was euthanized.

According to the animal shelter, the marmoset had to be euthanized to allow for rabies testing. The county’s health department environmental services director says that rabies vaccines are usually ineffective in primates.

Two people were bitten on the ear and another was bit on the finger. Marmosets are small primates, about the size of squirrels, native to South America.
