Saginaw County commissioner strengthens seizure process of dogs that attack

Posted on May 3rd, 2013 No Comments

Saginaw County Commissioner Kirk Kilpatrick said he plans to enforce some changes that will give greater power to animal control officers, as they are the ones responsible for containing dogs involved in serious bite cases.

This initiative is backed by Animal Control Director  Kevin Wilken, who is establishing a system to impound dangerous dogs regardless of what time of day it is, a method much like the one implemented by law enforcement regarding high-profile cases and pressing search and arrest warrants.

It came as a response to two recent dog attacks in the county. The first incident caused a baby to be seriously hurt, and the second one involved a Saginaw Water Department employee being attacked by three dogs.

According to Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel, the police will be providing backup to the animal control officers wherever in the county, if assistance is needed, once they get that court order.

Despite preventative measures, the negligence of certain dog owners causes innocent people to sustain serious injuries as a result of dog bites. If this has happened to you, call the lawyers of Ravid & Associates, P.C., at 877-PET-BITE to discuss your legal options.
