This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week

Posted on May 22nd, 2012 No Comments

May 20-26 is the American Veterinary Medical Association‘s National Dog Bite Prevention Week, a national initiative aimed at reducing the nearly five million dog bites that occur every year.

Children are the the most common victims of dog bites. It is important not only to teach your child how to act around familiar and unfamiliar dogs, but also to properly train and socialize your pet to avoid violent behavior. As a dog owner, it is imperative to establish control over your dog as well as show it respect and make it feel at ease.

Children should never be left alone with a dog, whether it’s a family pet or a stranger. Children should be taught never to approach strange dogs, pull on their ears or tails, or pet a dog without the owner’s permission.

Teaching children how to avoid dog bite injuries could save their lives. If your child has been injured by another person’s dog, contact the child dog bite injury attorneys of Ravid & Associates, P.C., at 1-877-PET-BITE.
