Woman dies after being bitten by rabid dog

Posted on May 29th, 2012 No Comments

An English woman died over the weekend after she was bitten by a rabid dog in south Asia. The woman was being treated for rabies at London’s Hospital for Tropical Diseases when she succumbed to rabies encephalitis, which is the name for the virus once it reaches the brain.

According to the Press Association, the woman was turned away twice from Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent before she was diagnosed with rabies. The hospital defends itself, saying that it based its decision on the information the woman provided at the time.

A second possible case of rabies in Great Britain was reported in Leeds. Officials say the patient went to the hospital following a dog bite that occurred in a foreign country.
