World gymnastics champion bitten by dog

Posted on March 6th, 2012 No Comments

20 year-old Daniel Leyva, the world champion on the parallel bars, was bitten by one of his American Bulldogs late last month and received 80 stitches.

The Cuban native said he was trying to break up a fight between three of his pet bulldogs when he was bitten. He picked up one of the dogs and took it inside when it was startled and bit him on the right side of his face. Leyva says when he looked in the mirror and saw his ear hanging loosely he called an ambulance.

Plastic surgery to repair his ear required 80 stitches inside and out. The bite ran from his ear to his jaw. Leyva says the bite will not distract him from his London Olympic goals.
